Abbreviations: i.e versus e.g.

Most of us misuse i.e. and e.g. regularly.

i.e is the abbreviation in Latin for 'id est" meaning "that is". It is used to explain things more thoroughly.

e.g. is the abbreviation of "exempli gratia" in Latin which means "for example'.

Examples of the proper usage of these abbreviation:

Please pick three days in which to come in and complete your project i.e. Monday, Wednesday, Friday.

The shirt comes in many sizes e.g. small, medium and large.

Did this help anyone?
